The Simonton City Council will meet on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at 6:30 PM at Simonton City Hall. The public is encouraged to attend and to participate in sharing their thoughts and concerns via “Public Comments”.

Executive Session
Once the preliminary items (#1, #2, and #3) are dispensed with, this meeting will apparently continue with an “Executive Session”. While no details related to the specific reason for the Executive Session have been provided, this session will apparently consider legal and personnel-related matters. The public will be asked to leave the Council Chamber and wait outside for the meeting to re-convene after the Executive Session has been completed.

Per the agenda:
“Consultation with legal counsel (Section 551.071); and, Deliberations on personnel (Section 551.074) regarding the appointment, appeal, employment, evaluation, reassignment, duties, discipline, or dismissal of the City Secretary and the City Administrator.”

Also of note, the city cannot take action inside of Executive Session and any action taken must take place in “Open Session” – although often City’s don’t take action at all.

Budget workshop, Session #2
Following the Executive Session matters, the City Council will hold their 2nd “Budget Workshop”, in which they consider the budget needs for the budget that they will ultimately adopt in September of 2023, prior to the beginning of “new” 2023-2024 budget year.

The budget is intended to be adopted prior to the adoption of the setting of the “new” annual ad valorem property tax rate.
