Candidates Set for Simonton City Council Election
Disclosure: I am Daniel McJunkin and I wrote this notice as community information and not a campaign piece. I am among the three candidates running for Alderman that are mentioned below.
The election will be held on Saturday, May 4th.
The filing deadline for a place on the ballot for the upcoming Simonton City Council Election closed on February 16, 2024.
The election is set for Saturday, May 4th 2024.
Also, it is important to note that in Fort Bend County, registered voters are able to vote at any polling location. However, for the convenience of Simonton voters, voting will be held at Simonton City Hall on May 4th from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm (not open for early voting).

Who filed for a place on the ballot?
According to the City Website, Mayor Laurie Boudreaux is unopposed for re-election as Mayor.
There are three candidates for the two open Alderman positions (in alphabetical order by last name):
There are a number of things that Simonton voters should know.
- There are three open Alderman positions on the ballot.
- Mayor: Serves a two year term.
- Alderman, Serves a two-year term.
- There are two open “At Large” Alderman (city council) positions.
- Each Alderman position is “At-Large” and represents all citizens without regard to location within the city.
- The election for Alderman is a popularity contest in that the two candidates with the highest number of votes will win the two open positions.
- As a “Type “A” General Law City”, Simonton does not have “wards”, “districts” or “positions” on the ballot. Each Alderman on the City Council represents all of the citizens without regard to location within the city.
- There is no cost to file for a place on the ballot.
- There is presently no financial compensation for service on City Council.
- Regular meetings are typically held on either the first or the third Tuesday of each month – and sometimes both.
- Other “special” meetings may be called as / if needed.
- In order to run, a candidate must:
- Be a citizen of the United States;
- Be at least 18 years old on the date of the election; and
- Be a registered voter;
- Have lived in the State of Texas for at least 12 consecutive months prior to the filing date for the election, and in your city or ward for at least 6 months prior to the filing date for the election.
- Must not have been convicted of a felony.
